A demonstration of what a band of Brethren can accomplish, When they mix Music, Philanthropy, and Heritage

.John.

John is one of the newest members in the Zor Pipes and Drums.

He carries the flagship of joy and fun for the band. Energy, fun, and excitment, are his token gifts to everyone in the band, and the Shrine.

Joining Zor Pipes & Drums

John joined the band in 2004. In his first event, he carried a big broadsword

After that event, he started in on the drums with the concert band in Monroe .

Beginings with Drums

In high school John played trombone and baritone, but went to state in a percussion sextet playing the bongos.

Between him and his brother, they had a drum set in their bedroom that John always played.

Charles Knowles encouraged him to join the band. Thus Charles was John's original instructor, who was teaching him the bagpipe. The guys heard him play the pipes and said, 'Make him a drummer!' Steve Emerson and Les Steffen were instrumental in keeping John in the band.

Heritage

His two great grandfathers on his father's side were Scottish.

They both married Irish women.

His Mom's side of the family are from Luxembourg and Prussia (what used to be East Germany ).

Best Bagpipe memories

Watch John's joy when it is time to play the second set (Green Hills et.al.). That is his favorite, followed by Bonnie Dundee. His word of the day is always 'All parades are fun!'

John is one of the few drummers who are pretty good at the side drums and really likes playing the bass drum too!

May the Great Architect of the Universe have his blessing upon you.
